Option 1 – Automatic Hard Drive Error Checking ONLY

Go to Scheduled Tasks by clicking Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / Scheduled Tasks.

1) Double click "Add Scheduled Task" to open the Scheduled Task Wizard.

2) Click Next and then Browse for a file called "cleanmgr.exe". In Windows XP, this is often found on your C: drive under the Windows/system32/.

3) Double click the cleanmgr.exe file.

4) Replace the "cleanmgr" description with something meaningful like "Hard Drive Error Check".

5) Select how often you would like to run the scan. We'd recommend you run this task at least once per month.

6) Click Next and then set the time you would like the task to run.

7) Click Next. If you have a username and password set, you'll need to enter those details in order for Windows to perform this task in the background. (i.e. If you have a screen saver running at the scheduled time.)

8) Click Next and then Finish.

Windows will now automatically check your hard drive for errors.
