Word Images That Get Noticed - Part II

It's time for another edition of our tips and trick where we present you with a few helpful bits of information which we hope makes you everyday computing tasks just a little bit quicker & easier.

Quick Outlook Contacts

If you use MS Outlook and are tired of adding a contact by clicking on contacts, clicking New and then adding all the info by cutting & pasting several times, then you may be interested in saving a few clicks.

To do so, when you open the email from the person you wish to add, simply right-click on their address (found in the email header) and then "Add to Contacts".

That's it. Now you'll see a new contact in your Outlook contacts. You'll still have to add details like their phone number and postal address if you like to keep all of those details.

PowerPoint Keys
Microsoft PowerPoint has many ways to navigate between slides, but we thought you might like to know the following shortcuts to save you a few mouse clicks.

In the Normal view:

  • Press the Page Up key to move up a slide.
  • Press the Page Down key to move down a slide.
  • To go straight to the first slide, hit the Home key.
  • Hit the End key to go to the last slide.

In the Slide Sorter view:

  • The Up, Down, Left and Right arrow keys will move you one slide in the designated direction.
  • The Page Up and Page Down keys will scroll through the slides on the screen but won't change the currently selected slide. This allows you to view other slides without losing your place.

Word Images That Get Noticed - Part II
Last month, we told you how to add some punch to your Word images by making then 3D.

Maybe the 3D effect is a bit too bold for your document. Well, there are other ways to make your Word objects stand out. One is the shadow feature.

After you've added your simple shapes with the Drawing Toolbar's AutoShape feature, select it (by clicking on it once) and then click the button to the left of 3D button in the Drawing Toolbar. (Remember, the 3D button is at the far right of the Drawing Toolbar. If you don't see the Drawing Toolbar, select View > Toolbars > Drawing and you'll likely see it at the bottom of the screen then.)

Hover over it and it'll say "Shadow Style". Click it to select a shadow effects to apply to the image you selected in your document.

That's it for this month. We hope you find these tips useful and if you did, please share them!
