Newsletter ArchivesMay, 2007================= Pop-Up Blocking Prevention But what if you want to see the pop-up that was blocked? This could happen for a few reasons – you’re visiting an interesting web site and want to visit one of the sites they recommend or perhaps a friend has emailed you a link to a web site they suggest you visit. You click on the link and almost nothing happens. Nothing except a message somewhere on your screen saying a pop-up was blocked. Rather than going into the settings, de-activating the pop-up blocker and then re-activating it after clicking the link you want to visit, you can save time and override most pop-up blockers by simply holding the CTRL button on your keyboard while you click on the link. Unwanted Automatic Corrections But what if you wanted that spelling mistake is within a quote and you don’t want it to correct the mistake? To undo an automatic correction, simply stop what you’re doing
as soon as the program has corrected you and do one of 3 things: ****************** Everyone’s heard stories about viruses bringing a company’s computer systems to a halt. Of course, you’re not going to loose millions of dollars or have thousands of upset customers if your computer gets infected. But what will happen? How will you remove the virus? How will you know if it’s fully removed? What if it prevents you from logging into your computer? Has the virus deleted important information? Has it stolen personal information and sent it to a cyber thief? Of course, rather than worrying about all of these questions, you could sleep easy knowing you’ve got one of the leading anti-virus programs installed on your computer protecting you 24/7! To download it, go to AVG Anti-Virus. Where in the World??? All you need is to install a bit of free Microsoft code onto your WiFi (wireless) enabled laptop. Go to Microsoft’s download section and install the Microsoft Location Finder. After you’ve installed it, you can run it by clicking on Start > All Programs > Microsoft Location Finder or the new icon (blue arrow pointing down to a green line) in the lower right of your screen. After starting the program, it will search for the nearest WiFi access points and use them to find your location. If it can’t find WiFi access points, it will use your ISP number and try to find you. It can show you an aerial view of your location and can be zoomed in almost to street level. Pretty incredible! And it’s completely free! Of course, you’ll
need to be connected to the internet for the program to work.
