Creating Your Own Shortcut

It doesn’t matter if you have your favourite website addresses on your desktop or you want quicker access to your most frequently used programs, the steps are the same.

1. Find the shortcut icon you want to create a shortcut key for (i.e. on your desktop or in Start/All Programs).
2. Right click on the desired shortcut icon and then select “Properties”.
3. Select the Shortcut tab if it’s not already selected.
4. Click in the “Shortcut key:” field.
5. To replace the “None” or current shortcut (if there is one already assigned) shown, simply press the key or combination of keys you want to use – and will be able to remember, and the new shortcut key(s) will appear in the “Shortcut key:” field.

If you want to use letters or numbers, you’ll need to press CTRL+ALT+(your key) to enable the shortcut. You can also select one of your keyboard’s function keys for a one key shortcut. But in either case, make sure you don’t select a shortcut key which is already in use by one of your programs. Otherwise you’ll find yourself starting a program instead of running the function you wanted to do within the active program.

When submitting personal details over the internet, you should always make sure that the site is secure.

How can you tell if a site is secure? The URL (web address) should start with “https://” rather than “http://” and there should be a little lock in the lower-right corner of the web browser.

MS PowerPoint Template Tip
If you use Microsoft PowerPoint’s design templates and want to change the look quickly and easily while you’re working on a presentation, just look down at the status bar (near the centre) and you’ll see the name of the current design template being used. Double click the design template name in the status bar and the design template list will open. Choose a new design template and presto! Your presentation has been updated with the new template.
